Campus and community
Renshaw Central School District gathers most of its facilities on a broad Southbank campus. The elementary school and junior–senior high school occupy separate buildings linked by access roads, playing fields and shared service areas. The auditorium, gymnasium and outdoor athletics complex host enough public events that residents without school-age children still visit regularly.
Students arrive from Old Renshaw, the Landing, West Ridge and smaller settlements beyond the town line. School buses therefore travel some of the municipality’s longest and most isolated roads each day. Delays, closures and unexplained absences are rarely confined to one neighbourhood.
Layout and security
The main buildings are practical brick structures expanded over several decades. Public entrances are controlled during school hours, though evening events open multiple doors and spread staff across the campus. The rear boundary meets recreation land and a shallow wooded drainage corridor, while the bus garage and maintenance yard sit apart from the classrooms.
The campus can become a polling place, storm shelter, emergency distribution centre or public meeting venue when Renshaw needs a building larger than Town Hall. Those roles make it familiar ground while also complicating any attempt to secure it quickly.
Place in the story
The school concentrates Renshaw’s families, rivalries and memories in one place. The protagonist and her siblings passed through the same system, so returning in uniform carries personal history even before a case involves somebody she once knew. Incidents here demand particular care: children notice inconsistencies, parents demand answers and a secret organisation cannot treat frightened residents as disposable witnesses.
